Community Group Questions: “We, Too, Can Endure!”
Ice Breaker
When was the last time a piece of music about suffering stirred your heart and drew you closer to the Father?
Scripture of the Week
2 Timothy 2:8–13
“Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, as preached in my gospel, for which I am suffering, bound with chains as a criminal. But the word of God is not bound! Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they may also obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. The saying is trustworthy, for: ‘If we have died with him, we will live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful—for he cannot deny himself.’”
Discussion Questions
- How do you define endurance?
- What did Pastor Freddy’s sermon title stir within you?
- When you consider the endurance of suffering, for Christ, his children and his glory, does it ever give you pause or concern? What does that moment look like, and how have you been able to persevere in those times?
- Service to the Father can result in suffering. How do you find ways in everyday life to serve God? Which things in your life are the biggest roadblocks to your service to Him?
- What changes have you made to enable you to better serve Jesus? What was the greatest struggle in making that change, and what was the outcome?
- We are promised that one day, we will no longer know the suffering of this world. What weight, pain or suffering are you anxious/excited to release on that day? Have you cried out to God for his help in carrying that burden until that day?
- Pastor Freddy acknowledged that God will still remain faithful when we are faithless. Is there a faithless moment you look back at now, and can easily see how God carried you? What happened, and how were you changed as a result?
- Fragile faith is not fatal faith. When you encounter someone who is experiencing fragile, tentative faith, how do you speak to them? How would you encourage that individual, and how would you encourage yourself in such a moment if you recognized it within?
- God promises to hold tight to us, even as we try to let him go. Pastor Freddy illustrated this by drawing a parallel between fathers holding a sleeping baby who is letting go after holding tight in his arms. How is God holding you tight today?
- What are you enduring right now? How can we pray for you as a group?
