Icebreaker Question

What’s a rule or guideline you had growing up (at home, school, etc.) that seemed restrictive at the time—but you now appreciate?

Discussion Questions

  1. How does seeing the Ten Commandments as both “indicting” and “privileges” change how you understand their role in your life?

  2. Why do you think it’s easier to display the Ten Commandments publicly (e.g., in schools or buildings) than to live them out personally and communally?

  3. Which of the Ten Commandments challenges you the most right now, and why?

  4. Have you ever treated the commandments like “ladders” to climb toward God’s favor instead of “guardrails” that protect your life? What difference does that perspective make?

  5. Pastor Freddy T taught us that the law is a “mirror.” What has the mirror of God’s law recently shown you about your heart?

  6. How does knowing Jesus fulfilled the law on your behalf affect how you respond to God’s commands?

  7. What’s the difference between obeying God’s commands out of love versus out of fear or obligation? Which motivates you more right now?

  8. In what ways have you experienced the Holy Spirit empowering you to obey God’s commands when you couldn’t in your own strength?

  9. Pastor Freddy T mentioned the Spirit writing the law on our hearts. What might that look like practically in your daily life?

  10. What’s one way you sense God inviting you to respond to this message—not just in thought, but in action this week?

Prayer Prompts

  • Thank God for revealing His heart and holiness through the Ten Commandments.

  • Confess any areas where you’ve been ignoring or resisting God’s moral standard.

  • Ask the Holy Spirit to write God’s law on your heart and empower you to love and obey.

  • Pray for a deeper understanding of grace—not just for salvation, but for daily obedience.

  • Lift up anyone in the group feeling drawn to respond in faith, baptism, or calling.
