Community Group Questions — 2 Timothy 4:6–8

Icebreaker

What’s something in your life that signals, “The season is changing”? (a smell, a routine, a tradition, a phrase, etc.)

Discussion Questions

2 Timothy 4:6 — “Poured Out / Departure”

  1. Paul describes his life as being “poured out like a drink offering.” In your own life, what does sacrificial obedience actually look like — not theoretically, but practically?
  2. Chaplain Joe Sherwin emphasized that Paul didn’t see his death as “the end” but as a “departure.” How does having a clear sense of our ultimate destination reshape how we live today?

Fighting the Good Fight

  1. Where do you sense the spiritual battle most clearly right now? (family, mind, habits, anxiety, temptation, marriage, work, etc.)
  2. Paul said he “fought the good fight.” What helps you stay focused on the right fight and avoid being distracted by lesser ones?

Finishing the Race

  1. Hebrews 12 calls us to “lay aside every weight.” What are some weights—not necessarily sins—that slow you down spiritually?
  2. Chaplain Joe Sherwin said Paul could die with confidence because his life itself was his testimony. What kind of testimony is your life currently telling?

Keeping the Faith

  1. Paul says he “kept the faith”—he guarded it. What practices help you maintain spiritual integrity over the long haul?
  2. In what ways do you need to “train” spiritually right now? What rhythms or disciplines need strengthening?

The Crown / Eternal Perspective

  1. Chaplain Joe Sherwin noted that the crown is a guaranteed, glorious, personal, and shared promise. Which part of that resonates most with you today? Why?
  2. How does remembering eternity—your “crown of righteousness”—impact your choices, priorities, or relationships this week?

Prayer Prompts

  • Thanksgiving: Thank God that death for the believer is not a destination but a departure — a homecoming. Thank Him for the hope of resurrection and the crown of righteousness.
  • Surrender: Ask God to help you live a “poured out” life — sacrificial, joyful, and offered fully to Him.
  • Strength for the Fight: Pray for courage and clarity in whatever spiritual battles group members are facing. Pray for discernment to fight the right fight.
  • Endurance in the Race: Ask God to reveal the weights that need to be laid aside and to give strength to run with endurance.
  • Integrity + Faithfulness: Pray for God to help each person keep the faith with integrity — in private and public.
  • Eternal Perspective: Ask God to keep heaven in view this week — shaping decisions, attitudes, and relationships.
