Ice Breaker

What’s one simple part of your daily routine you actually enjoy and look forward to?

Scriptures

  • John 8:31–36
  • 2 Timothy 3:14–17
  • James 1:4

Discussion Questions

  1. Jesus says, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples.”
What do you think it practically means to abide in God’s Word—not just read it occasionally, but live in it? What would change in your life if you truly abided in it daily?
  2. Pastor Nick contrasted “trick shots” with “lay-ups.” Why do you think we’re often drawn to spiritual highlight moments rather than daily faithfulness? What are some “lay-ups” God may be calling you to right now?
  3. How can you tell the difference between knowing about God’s Word and truly knowing its truth in a way that shapes your life?
Share an example of when Scripture moved from information to transformation for you.
  4. According to 2 Timothy 3:16–17, Scripture teaches, corrects, reproves, and trains us.
Which of those has been most evident in your life recently—and why?
  5. Jesus connects abiding in His Word with freedom. Where do you see people today chasing freedom apart from truth? Why does that ultimately fail?
  6. Pastor Nick said sin is deceptive and keeps us in bondage. What are some lies the enemy commonly uses to keep people spiritually stuck? Which ones have you personally struggled to believe?
  7. In what areas of your life do you currently feel the most freedom? What role has truth and Scripture played in that freedom?
  8. In what areas do you still feel stuck, anxious, or in bondage? How might abiding in Christ’s Word bring freedom in those areas?
  9. Pastor Nick said, “You get to decide which team you’re following.”
What daily decisions reveal which “team” you’re truly aligning your life with?
  10. What is one specific, practical step you can take this week to more intentionally abide in God’s Word?
(Be specific—time, place, plan, or accountability.)

Prayer Prompts

  1. Pray for a deeper desire to abide in God’s Word
Ask God to give you a hunger for Scripture—not just to read it, but to live in it, trust it, and build your life on it daily.
  2. Pray for God to reveal truth and expose lies
Ask the Holy Spirit to show you any areas where you’ve believed lies about God, yourself, or your circumstances, and to replace them with His truth.
  3. Pray for freedom in areas of struggle or bondage
Ask Jesus to bring freedom in any area where you feel stuck—whether that’s fear, sin, shame, anxiety, or discouragement—and to help you walk in the freedom He has already secured.
  4. Pray for consistency and faithfulness in daily obedience
Ask God to help you be faithful in the “spiritual lay-ups”—the small, daily acts of obedience that strengthen your faith and deepen your relationship with Him.
