3 Ways the Gospel Rewrites Our Lives

Icebreaker

  1. Icebreaker: When you’re driving somewhere unfamiliar, are you more of a “follow the GPS exactly” person or a “I know my way around town” person? Why?

Discussion Questions

  1. Motivated by Mercy: When you hear the word mercy, what comes to mind first—something God does for you or something God calls you into? Why do you think that is?

  2. Romans 12:1 begins with “I appeal to you… by the mercies of God.” Why is it important that Paul starts with mercy instead of commands?

  3. Pastor Freddy T said, “God’s mercy doesn’t just forgive us…it fuels us.” Where have you experienced God’s mercy actually changing your desires or motivation, not just your guilt?

  4. Read Lamentations 3:22–23 together. How does the idea that God’s mercies are “new every morning” shape the way you approach failure or sin in your life?

  5. Called to Holy Living: Paul uses sacrifice language. What feels hardest about the idea of being a living sacrifice instead of a one-time offering?

  6. The burnt offering was completely consumed. What parts of your life are easiest to place on the altar? What parts are hardest to surrender fully?

  7. Verse 2 warns us not to be “conformed to this world.” What are some subtle ways our culture tries to shape our thinking, priorities, or definition of success?

  8. Transformation happens through the renewal of the mind. What practices or rhythms have helped renew your mind in the past? What seems to hinder that renewal?

  9. Discerning God’s Will: How does the WAZE vs. “sense of direction” illustration change the way you think about knowing God’s will?

  10. Where in your life right now do you want clear instructions from God, but He may instead be inviting you into deeper trust, maturity, and wisdom?

Prayer Prompts

  • Thank God specifically for His mercy—name ways you’ve seen it in your life recently.

  • Ask the Lord to reveal areas where you are still holding something back from the altar.

  • Pray for renewed minds in your group: clarity, discernment, and spiritual wisdom.

  • Ask God to help you live holy lives that reflect joyful response, not reluctant obedience.

  • Pray that your group would grow in the ability to discern God’s will together, not just seek quick answers.
