Ice Breaker: “Text, Call, or Conversation?”

If you had to choose just one way to communicate for the rest of your life, would you pick texting, phone calls, or face to face conversation?

Discussion Questions

  • When you hear the statement, “No prayer = no relationship with God,” what is your honest reaction? How does that reflect your current prayer life?
  • What tends to keep you from praying consistently—busyness, distraction, forgetfulness, or something deeper?
  • Jesus emphasizes praying in secret. What do you think He is really after—location or heart posture? How does that challenge the way you pray?
  • Do you currently have a “secret place” for prayer? If not, what would it look like to intentionally create one?
  • When you think about prayer as “fighting for” someone instead of “arguing with” them (like the War Room example), how could that change your relationships this week?
  • How often do your prayers become routine or repetitive without much thought? What practical steps could help you pray more intentionally?
  • What role does Scripture play in shaping your prayers? How might reading God’s Word before praying change what you say to Him?
  • When you pray, do you tend to focus more on your needs or on who God is? What would it look like to begin your prayers with adoration?
  • How could focusing on God’s character (His goodness, power, faithfulness) change your perspective on your current circumstances?
  • If you were to take one next step this week to grow in your prayer life, what would it be—and when will you do it?

Prayer Prompts

  • Lord, forgive me for the times I’ve neglected prayer or treated it casually. Renew in me a desire to spend time with You and remind me that prayer is where our relationship grows.
  • Father, help me create space to meet with You regularly. Give me the discipline to step away from distractions and the desire to seek You in private with a sincere heart.
  • God, examine my heart. Remove any desire to impress others or go through the motions. Teach me to pray with humility, honesty, and a genuine love for You.
  • Jesus, slow me down when I pray. Help me to think about what I’m saying, to listen to You as well as speak, and to let Your Word shape my prayers.
  • Father, before I ask for anything, help me to see You for who You are—holy, good, powerful, and faithful. Fill my heart with awe and gratitude as I worship You in prayer.
