About Calvary Commons Church

Calvary Commons | Knoxville, Tennessee

Through years of pastoring struggling churches, serving college students through Cru and connecting with the Salt Network, God shaped Brandon and Becca Moore’s calling to church replanting and next-generation ministry. More than five years ago, He gave them a vision to replant a church focused on reaching the next generation and led them to see the need and opportunity in Knoxville. Through prayer, their church community and the doors God opened, He confirmed their calling to help bring renewal to a dying church. We are humbled and excited to partner with Calvary Commons Church in seeing God’s mission come to fruition.

God Has Been Faithful

We celebrated one year of our official launch of Calvary Commons! Brandon and I, along with our staff team, have spent a lot of time reflecting on God’s faithfulness and goodness to us over this past year. We have seen God answer specific prayers in ways that we couldn’t imagine.

August has been an incredible month of growth, fruit and deepening our dependence on Him as we seek to make Him non-ignorable in Knoxville and the University of Tennessee, to the ends of the earth!

Our update has an extra page with some fun picture highlights. We would also love to invite you to watch the video below, which explains how God has been at work. We give Him all the glory for what He is doing! Thank you for partnering with us and being part of what God is doing at Calvary Commons.

Blessings, Becca and Brandon
“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”
Ephesians 3:20–21

See How God Is at Work

Salt Company Kickoff

Campus Ministry

To God be the glory! We are overwhelmed by the work God is doing in and through our church. In early August, 50 of our student leaders gathered with our Salt Co. staff to pray and prepare to engage students and invite them to follow Jesus. They spent countless hours on campus building relationships with students, inviting them to fun events, and boldly sharing the Gospel.

Our Salt Co. Kickoff had more than 450 students in attendance, and 51 students indicated that they put their faith in Jesus that evening! These aren’t just numbers. These are names. These are stories. These are lives being changed by Jesus.

Since then, our staff has been faithfully following up with students. We have already seen many take their next steps of faith, including students being baptized and learning what it means to follow Jesus.

New Life in Christ

Calvary Commons

Sunday mornings in August have been a joy! Students have been arriving in the backs of truck beds, greeted by men and women who have called this church home for more than 30 years. Every seat has been filled, with even our downstairs overflow space completely full. People from very different walks and stages of life are worshipping the same God, eager to take a deeper look at Jesus as we study through the book of Mark together.

There has been a contagious joy filling our church building and overflowing into connection groups on campus and throughout the city. We have seen many people come to know Jesus, with 7 individuals taking their next step of faith through baptism.

Destiny, one of the girls who was baptized, first started coming to Calvary Commons at our launch last year. She told me: “Accepting Jesus has really helped me through my dark times. I am a very different person from last year to this year. I wouldn’t even recognize myself.”

In a city full of people who have known a lot about Jesus, we are seeing people come to truly know and follow Jesus. Thank you for partnering with us to help make the name of Jesus non-ignorable in Knoxville and the University of Tennessee, to the ends of the earth!

Prayer Requests

Thank you for continuing to pray with the Moore family and Calvary Commons.

  • Pray for our Salt staff and student leaders as they follow up with the many students attending Salt Co., especially those who just put their faith in Christ.
  • Pray for us to reach families throughout Knoxville, especially in West View.
  • Pray for discernment and patience as we transition to two services, starting Sept. 20.
  • Pray for strength and intentionality as we disciple our boys through this busy season.
